One of my favorite ways to create Christmas memories is with ornaments. What a great way to remember those holidays past.
Many of the holiday catalogs and most of the department stores now offer holiday ornaments from the silver and crystal providers like Reed & Barton, Lalique and Waterford, just to name a couple. Even the name department stores create some of their own dated ornaments for collecting.
We always purchased ours from the Neiman Marcus catalog, only because we looked forward to receiving the catalog every year. It was my son’s favored job to look through all the selections and choose the special ornament for the year. I then ordered the ornament and we looked forward to receiving it in the post.
Be careful when selecting your annual keepsake ornament; not all are engraved or stamped. It’s important to have this information recorded on the ornament. While I was raising my son, I remembered every ornament, every year. Now that my son is away at college, I find my memory is not as good as it used to be.
The best part of collecting these special ornaments is using them to decorate the tree each year. Every time you pick up one of these ornaments, you’ll remember selecting, ordering and receiving it; these are the memories that will last a lifetime.
